Santa Maria la Fossa – For the third consecutive year, an act of intimidation has hit a property confiscated from the Camorra in the Caserta area. Late yesterday evening, an arson attack destroyed the crops of the agricultural land of Santa Maria la Fossa, which once belonged to the boss Francesco Schiavone, known as Sandokan, and managed by the social cooperative Terra Felix.
The flames have devoured fields ready for harvest, scheduled for early August. “We have lost everything,” denounced Francesco Pascale, president of Terra Felix, “the economic damage is enormous.” The land, taken away from organized crime and converted into a social redemption project, has been the target of intimidating gestures for years.
Extensive damage: entire crop lost
Anna Ceprano, president of Legacoop Campania, expressed solidarity with the cooperative:
"It is a reprehensible action, but we will not stop. Terra Felix will continue its mission of returning to the community goods taken from the Camorra. We ask the institutions and the police for an even more decisive commitment".
A challenge to crime that does not give up
Yesterday's attack was the latest in a series of attacks against confiscated assets in the area, a sign that the cooperatives' resistance is annoying. Despite the intimidation, however, Terra Felix assured: "We will continue, for legality and work free from the mafia."
