Castellammare di Stabia is not sleeping soundly. In the last few hours, the municipality of Stabia has been the scene of a massive operation by the police, with tight controls on commercial activities, restaurants, streets and squares. The goal is only one: to restore legality, security and respect for the rules in a city where too often the boundary between tolerance and abuse is crossed without scruples.
The checks, extended in particular to the area of via Filosa and the city center, have brought to light a worrying picture. Dirty premises, infested with insects, food without traceability, staff employed without mandatory certifications. Some restaurants were closed instantly, including one caught with public land illegally occupied, as if it were normal to extend one's business outside of the law.
But the inspection activity did not stop at the kitchens. Numerous young people were reported to the Prefecture for personal use of narcotics, found in possession of hashish, marijuana and cocaine. A sign that the problem of petty crime remains embedded in the fabric of the city, often just a few meters from commercial establishments or public places.
At the same time, the officers engaged in road checks have issued a flurry of fines: speeding, uninsured cars, missed MOTs and unfastened seat belts are just some of the violations recorded.
The law enforcement operation in Castellammare di Stabia appears to have been an important step toward addressing the legal situation. There are many activities that need to be monitored and improved, but more attention is needed.
