Salerno – The Guardia di Finanza of Cava de' Tirreni has executed a temporary ban from holding public office against two municipal officials involved in an investigation into alleged irregularities in the awarding of public contracts.

The measure, issued by the preliminary investigations judge at the request of the Nocera Inferiore Public Prosecutor's Office, provides for a 12-month ban for one of the two officials and a 6-month ban for the other.

According to the investigation, the two public officials allegedly manipulated the direct procurement of four service cars for the Municipal Police. The contract was awarded, in violation of public procurement regulations , to a car dealership linked to a close relative of the person in charge of the procedure.

The investigation, conducted by the Guardia di Finanza and supported by technical activities, highlighted how the official in charge – with the assistance of a colleague in charge of the investigation – communicated in advance to the "family" dealer the technical specifications required for the order, allowing him to upload the supply directly to the MePA (Electronic Market for Public Administration) portal, in a position of clear advantage.

The suspects are charged with revealing official secrets and forging a public surety document. This investigation is part of the broader commitment of the Guardia di Finanza and the Nocera Inferiore Public Prosecutor's Office to combat fraud in public spending, with a particular focus on irregularities in the management of procurement contracts by local authorities.

In compliance with the presumption of innocence, the investigation continues to precisely outline the responsibilities and verify any further involvement.

I hope this situation is resolved as soon as possible. Citizens deserve proper management of public funds and should not suffer the consequences of the misguided actions of a few.

I'm surprised by the number of irregularities in the awarding of public contracts. It's important that the authorities clarify this situation and punish any perpetrators to ensure transparency.
