Gionta Clan: "We need to kill a couple of people." Gemma's role

Torre Annunziata – A heavy blow was dealt today to the Gionta clan, one of the most fearsome Camorra organizations operating in Torre Annunziata and the surrounding areas.

The Carabinieri of the Torre Annunziata Group, at the request of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate and in execution of a precautionary order of the GIP of the Court of Naples, arrested 17 Guests seriously accused, to varying degrees, of crimes ranging frommafia-type association to the illegal possession and carrying of weapons, extortion e attempted extortion, up to detention for the purpose of drug dealingAll the crimes are aggravated by mafia methods and the aim of benefiting the Gionta clan.

A territory under siege: extortion and clashes between clans

The investigations revealed a well-established extortion practice targeting local business owners and merchants, who were forced to submit to the clan's demands. The constant availability of firearms was also discovered, a sign of the clan's desire to maintain control of the territory, even through violence. Furthermore, close ties to other Camorra organizations were also discovered.

Particularly disturbing is an environmental interception dating back to August 14, 2023, between Savino Carmine Mariano, Savino Alfredo and an unidentified subject. The conversation reveals a clear planning of armed actions towards the rival Valentini factions: "But uncle, do you know what I think? That WE (editor's note: referring to the Gionta Camorra clan) need a couple of DEAD people!... now or never! ... I agree to do it, uncle! ... I think you're doing the right thing, I think you're doing the right thing! ... now is the time! If we don't do it... what are we talking about, uncle?!"

Phrases that attest to the ferocity and determination with which bloody actions were planned, without any second thoughts.

The clan's organizational chart and the key role of "Donna Gemma"

Wiretaps and statements from collaborators of justice have allowed us to reconstruct the organizational chart of the Gionta clan, which uses the intimidating power of its membership to gain control of both legal and illegal activities, particularly extortion and drug trafficking.

The aim is to obtain unfair economic advantages and profits, including through armed opposition to rival criminal organisations, such as the "IV Sistema" and the groups with their operational base at the "Parco Penniniello" in Torre Annunziata.

In this context, the "eccentric" but apical role of emerges forcefully Donnarumma Gemma, released on April 26, 2022, and immediately returned to a top-level position within the clan by virtue of her status as "wife" of clan leader Valentino. Everyone recognizes her primary role: Donnarumma Gemma independently manages extortion, enforces the hiring of people close to her, and collects proceeds from drug trafficking.

Its maintenance is guaranteed directly by the regent Amoruso Gaetano, her nephew, who addresses her complaints about maintenance ("only" 1500 euros a month) by sending her "gifts" even on holidays.

To increase his income, Donnarumma Gemma, with the help of his brother Enrico, personally collected the proceeds from extortion against victims on the clan's "list" (such as the Eredi Vitiello businesses) and organized extortion attacks against individuals not on the list.

The alleged conduct extends to the present day for the crime of conspiracy, and to 2023 for the crimes of purpose. This attests to the persistent and alarming dangerousness of the suspects, who are still active in their respective areas of expertise, as confirmed by justice collaborator Salvatore Buonocore.

The Prosecutor's Office emphasizes the "certain existence of a risk of repetition of the crimes." The recent, very serious crimes that occurred in the Torre Annunziata area and surrounding areas unequivocally demonstrate the clan's ongoing operations, confirming the content of wiretaps and statements in the case file. Strengthening the investigative framework are two seizures on May 7, 2022, and April 3, 2025, which led to the recovery of numerous weapons and various types of narcotics.

The 260-plus-page precautionary order signed by investigating judge Antonino Santoro, based on wiretaps and the accounts of numerous informants, particularly Pietro Izzo and Salvatore Buonocore, details the Gionta clan's operations over the past few years, starting with Gemma Donnarumma's release from prison in May 2022.

The organizational chart is drawn up, the roles are outlined, the enemies to be hit, the entrepreneurs to be blackmailed are indicated, but there are also undiscovered details of the Camorra war in Torre Annunziata.

The group's persistent dangerousness is also confirmed by the recent seizures that occurred on May 7, 2022, and April 3, 2025, which led to the discovery of weapons of war and large quantities of drugs.

According to the DDA, the Gionta clan remains active and deeply rooted in the area, with the aim of controlling legal and illegal economic activities in the Torre Annunziata area and surrounding municipalities.
