Vincenzo De Luca made a forceful, no-nonsense appeal at the Vanvitelli University of Naples, during the presentation of a new treatment for a rare disease. The President of the Campania Region announced the official candidacy of the Santobono-Pausilipon Hospital to become a Scientific Hospital and Treatment Institute (IRCCS), forcefully emphasizing the urgency of bridging a regional gap he calls "shameful."
“We have all it takes to obtain recognition: excellent facilities, advanced research, top-notch medical expertise.”, said De Luca, pointing the finger at the administrative slowness and the concrete risk of “transforming an opportunity into a new bureaucratic swamp.”
The governor called for a responsible act from the central government, calling for a choice that is not only technical, but also political and moral: giving the South, and Naples in particular, the opportunity to enhance its centers of healthcare excellence. “We hope that in Rome there is the necessary sensitivity to recognize Santobono's worth.”, he added, urging national decision-makers.
