Mondragone – Another heavy blow to environmental lawlessness in the so-called "Land of Fires." The Carabinieri of the Mondragone Territorial Unit, with the support of the Ecological Operations Unit (NOE) of Caserta and soldiers from the 10th Campania Regiment of Naples, conducted a wide-ranging coordinated operation yesterday as part of the plan to combat illegal waste dumping.
Landfill site with unknown "Big Bags" found
Along the Via Domitiana, near the former IDAC area, the military identified an area of approximately 450 square meters illegally used as an illegal landfill. The site was used for the uncontrolled dumping of "Big Bags" containing waste that still needed to be classified, abandoned without any care.
The area, whose ownership is currently being identified, has been placed under precautionary seizure for abandonment and illegal waste management. The site has been entrusted to the acting mayor of the territorial municipality, who will be responsible for subsequent safety measures and disposal of the polluting materials.
360-degree controls: sanctions and prevention
During the operation, the Carabinieri intensified comprehensive checks, with a focus on preventing environmental crimes. Nine targeted environmental checks were conducted, along with 360 road traffic checks, involving 9 transporters and 27 vehicles. Following the checks, three administrative fines were imposed for violations found.
This activity is part of a broader plan to combat environmental crime, a constant commitment by law enforcement to protect public health and the environment in an area plagued by illegal dumping for years. Yesterday's action is a further sign of the authorities' attention to a problem that requires relentless and determined action.
