After the riots of '68, the silent ones of 2025!

Did you think you'd go down in history with a heroic act? Like this? No, I'm sorry, folks, it doesn't work that way. I've always been on the side of young people, but this time, I have to disagree.

Even the celebrations with toasts and, why not, the laurel wreath which doesn't hurt, since it hopes for a continuation of studies, obviously I don't admit the exaggerations I saw, and I'm talking about flour, eggs and so on, but on the "silent scene" at the oral exam, I say NO.

I read the various newspaper reports about this "boycott" of the final exam, and in all of them I read the same thing: "having ALREADY achieved, between the written test scores and academic credits, a grade of 60 hundredths, he refused to take the oral exam, as a sign of protest."

Protest? Guys, what protest? This is cowardice! We've never agreed with certain dynamics or a certain system, especially at university, where there were professors who gave A+s on oral exams because they were fascinated by the well-groomed nails of certain female students. Yet we did our duty and made a good impression.

We owed it to ourselves, to our dignity, to our sacrifices, to the sacrifices of our parents. I would have understood this form of protest, so to speak, perhaps even more so, from a student who, arriving at the oral exam with a score of 80 out of XNUMX, had refused the chance to pass the exam with top marks, demonstrating, at that point, a lack of interest in assessment and the scoring system.

But, from a student who already knows he's bringing home the "written paper," getting a passing grade, refusing to prove himself in the final sprint, I DON'T ADMIT IT. Why didn't you decide to show your dissent in the previous 5 years, why didn't you demonstrate, why didn't you create ideological movements, why didn't you propose solutions, why didn't you decide not to even take the written tests?!

I'm sorry, boys and girls. Perhaps, in those five years, you could have used social media to spread your anti-establishment ideas, explaining your motivations, trying to spread a new idea, trying to gather support, to stir and move the masses. Why didn't you write letters, organize talks, instead of dancing on TikTok?! I know it's harsh, but we need to start figuring out the right balance.

This, too, is maturity. I agree that the school system needs to be rebuilt, but change is achieved by fighting, little by little, step by step, with the only winning weapon: culture.

Pino Daniele said: "If you really want to grow, stop complaining...Keep On Moving!" That said, I hope you find, in the near future and in your next steps, the strength to assert yourselves in this world, because that, truly, is not taught in any schoolbook.

With love, Prof. Barbella

I disagree with what I read in the article. I don't understand why students don't want to take the oral exam if they already have a passing score. I think it's important to prove your worth at the end, too.
