The incident, which occurred near Sunset Beach, had a happy ending thanks to the timely intervention of the beach resort's lifeguard. Despite the red flag, which indicated swimming was prohibited due to rough seas, the two dived into the water, underestimating the power of the waves and undertow.

Within moments, the harsh sea conditions put them in serious difficulty, pushing them far from shore. The potentially tragic situation was resolved by the quick and courageous action of the lifeguard, who dived into the waves to retrieve the mother and child, bringing them safely back to shore.

The paramedics also intervened on site 118, who provided first aid to the two swimmers, who were visibly shocked but fortunately in good physical condition. The incident, which occurred around 10:00 a.m., highlighted the need to respect warning signs posted on beaches, especially on days with rough seas like today.

Local authorities and beach operators have renewed their call for caution, emphasizing the importance of following lifeguards' instructions and avoiding risky behavior at sea. The incident ended without serious consequences, but it remains a warning to all beachgoers: the sea, even in a renowned tourist destination like Palinuro, can become dangerous if not approached with due caution.
