Extortion of former mayor of Orta di Atella, journalist arrested

He had already been arrested and convicted in 2022 for having reported false attacks against him by the Caserta Camorra clans.

Today, the journalist Mario De Michele, director of “Campanianotizie.com” was arrested again by the carabinieri on the serious charge of extortion against the former mayor of Orta di Atella, Angelo Brancaccio.

The investigation is coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office of Naples North. De Michele was already arrested a few years ago because he was involved in another investigation by the Prosecutor's Office of Naples North regarding two false attacks with gunshots that De Michele organized against him.

And this to have the escort, which was given to him and then revoked; for the false attacks De Michele was sentenced in 2022 to three years and ten months.

On that occasion he also received numerous expressions of solidarity, including those from the then President of the Chamber, Roberto Fico, and from the Government Undersecretary for Publishing, Andrea Martella.

It is strange that a journalist like De Michele is involved in such serious matters. Justice must take its course, but I hope that the truth of the facts will be clarified. Arrests are never a good thing.
