He had all the tools of a professional courier, except one thing: honesty. A 53-year-old man from Campania was reported for fraud by the Carabinieri in Fermo after attempting to collect goods from a local knitwear factory by posing as a delivery man.
The man had contacted the company's offices by phone, announcing the recall of some packages. However, the owner of the knitwear factory, suspicious of the call, alerted the Carabinieri, who organized a monitoring service. When the fake courier showed up at the warehouse, not only the owner was waiting for him, but also the military, ready to unmask him.
During the check, the Carabinieri discovered that the van used by the man was equipped with: counterfeit adhesive license plates, as well as items of clothing with the logos of well-known couriers and 10 other fake license plates, laminated and ready for use.
All the material, including the vehicle, was seized. The Carabinieri stressed the importance of caution in these cases: "Companies must always verify the couriers' identities, especially when the pickup is not scheduled."
