A live broadcast documenting illegal activity turned into a brutal attack. This is what happened Sunday morning to Marco Rota, a journalist investigating the presence of illegal vendors at Mappatella Beach, the public beach near Rotonda Diaz. During his live testimony, Rota was approached by a man, annoyed by the footage, who first verbally threatened him and then attacked him, attempting to strangle him.
The violence erupted before the eyes of incredulous residents, while the journalist, still holding his cell phone, denounced the systematic abuse of public land, a practice already highlighted several times by MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, who has been at the forefront of this issue for years. In his frantic escape across the scorching sand, Rota suffered burns to his feet and neck pain from the attack.
“A very serious episode – declared Borrelli – This shows how dangerous it is for those who tell the truth and demand legality. But they won't stop us. We'll continue our investigations and filing complaints. Honest Naples must reclaim its space." The Green-Left Alliance MP reiterated the need for a decisive intervention against what he defines as “an abusive and uncontrolled management of the public beach”.
The incident has been reported to law enforcement, who are evaluating the circumstances and identifying the attacker. Meanwhile, solidarity with the journalist is growing among the public, increasingly exasperated by a situation that seems out of control. But not everyone is silent, and those who have the courage to speak out, like Marco Rota, often do so at the risk of their own safety.

It's truly incredible that these things happened to a journalist who was just trying to do his job. People shouldn't react violently, but instead should dialogue and discuss issues peacefully to find solutions.
