Apartment fire: Woman arrested in Giugliano
GIugliano – A fire that broke out last night in an apartment on Corso Campano led to the arrest of Daniela Battista, a 47-year-old Neapolitan woman already known to law enforcement.
Carabinieri from the local company's mobile radio unit, while patrolling Via Togliatti, observed a group of residents, including a man on a scooter, chasing a fleeing woman. After securing the 47-year-old woman, the officers reconstructed the incident.
According to residents, the woman is responsible for the fire that devastated a second-floor apartment. Upon arriving on the scene, the Carabinieri found the home engulfed in flames and, while awaiting the firefighters' arrival, evacuated the building, rescuing the remaining residents.
The fire, which was later extinguished, completely destroyed the apartment, which was declared uninhabitable along with the one above. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Investigations revealed that the woman, the sole occupant of the apartment, started the fire by throwing a lit cigarette on the floor without putting it out, and then fleeing.
The apartment was seized, and Daniela Battista was arrested on suspicion of arson. The 47-year-old was transferred to prison, awaiting trial.
