The death of Michele Noschese, aka DJ Godzi, the 35-year-old Neapolitan man who died last Saturday during an arrest carried out by the Guardia Civil in Ibiza, is still a murky affair.
According to the official version provided by the Spanish authorities, the young man died following a restraining operation made necessary by a state of severe psychophysical agitation, presumably due to the use of narcotic substances.
But the DJ's family and friends aren't buying it. His father, Giuseppe Noschese , and several people close to the boy are forcefully maintaining a different truth: Michele was beaten to death, and are demanding a second autopsy to shed full light on what happened.
Meanwhile, the Farnesina is also handling the case, through the Italian Embassy in Spain. The affair has taken on international sway, partly due to the numerous contradictions that have emerged in testimonies and official statements.
The Guardia Civil's statement: "The minimum force necessary was used."
The AEGC, the association representing the Guardia Civil, intervened to defend the officers' actions. A statement issued by the Balearic Islands delegation described the intervention as "correct" and maintained that the officers used "the minimum force necessary" to detain a man who was "completely out of control and threatening."
According to the statement, the Guardia Civil responded to a report of "death threats with a weapon" against a neighbor. The officers found Noschese in a severely impaired state, aggressive, and under the influence of drugs. After attempting to calm him down, they restrained and handcuffed him. Moments later, the DJ stopped moving.
At that point, resuscitation efforts began, and were then continued by the rescuers, who, however, were unable to do anything to save him.
" Michele Noschese 's death ," the statement continues, "was not the result of police intervention. He was not beaten, dragged, or physically assaulted. He was in an altered state, holding a knife, and had entered the home of an elderly man, threatening him."
Testimony from the neighbor's daughter: "My father is covered in bruises."
This story is partially confirmed by the testimony of the daughter of the 81-year-old neighbor involved in the incident, interviewed by Il Periodico de Ibiza. The woman requested anonymity, but confirmed that on Saturday morning, Michele entered his father's home by jumping from his balcony and attacking him, threatening him with a knife. Her father, she said, "is still covered in bruises" and suffered contusions to his shoulder and foot.
According to his reconstruction, the attack occurred suddenly, despite the good relationship between the two neighbors. Michele, he added, was considered "the best friend in the neighborhood" by his father, who, however, is now "very physically and emotionally distressed," also because he wears a pacemaker.
The woman also reported an unpublished detail: shortly before the attack, a girl fell from the balcony of Noschese's apartment, likely frightened by the situation. This previously unrevealed detail was reportedly shared by some neighbors gathered in the condominium garden, near the swimming pool.
Doubts, shadows and a hug between Michele's father and his neighbor
The elderly man's daughter's version, however, contradicts what some of Michele's friends have said, according to which the DJ never held a knife and the man's injuries were the result of an accidental fall. Michele's father, who arrived in Ibiza after the tragedy, also met with his elderly neighbor, describing a hug filled with emotion and pain.
"She was crying and asking me about Michele," the man reported. The older man remembered the young man as "a good person," confirming the friendship between the two.
The DJ's friends, still shocked, describe him as a generous, peaceful person with a great passion for music. "He wasn't violent," they insist.
The investigations and the commemoration in Naples
Meanwhile, Spanish authorities have not ruled out further investigations: they may hear new witnesses and draft a more detailed report on the 35-year-old Neapolitan's final moments.
