Stadium redevelopment for a better future in Naples
Not just Naples and not just Euro 2032: for Nino Simeone, president of the Infrastructure Commission of the City of Naples, it's time to seriously and systematically address the issue of stadium conditions throughout Campania. At a public meeting that brought together residents, fans, and football enthusiasts from across the region, Simeone relaunched a proposal that aims to become a cornerstone of the platform of the next center-left candidate for president of the Campania Region: Regional Plan for the Redevelopment and Adaptation of Sports Facilities.
The idea stems from the observation of a reality that's plain for all to see: the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, which is slated to be the focus of construction to host the 2032 European Championships, is just the tip of the iceberg. The stadiums in Avellino, Benevento, Caserta, and Castellammare di Stabia—the latter city also boosted by the recent successes of Juve Stabia—are in conditions that require urgent, if not structural, repairs. All this while Salerno is planning an investment of nearly €100 million for a new stadium.
According to Simeone, it is time that also Partenio of Avellino, Vigorito of Benevento, Pinto of Caserta, Romeo Menti of Castellammare and the same Maradona receive the resources and attention they deserve. The proposal is clear: act in accordance with the principles of territorial equity, transforming stadiums from dilapidated spaces into engines of urban and social regeneration.
"Football is a popular heritage," Simeone emphasized, "and investing in stadiums means investing in communities, in the safety and future of our region." This plan goes beyond sport and aims to generate economic, cultural, and identity-building benefits. Now the ball is in the politicians' court, with the goal of incorporating the proposal into the electoral platform and transforming it into a concrete promise for the revitalization of Southern football.

Nino Simeone's idea regarding stadiums in Campania is very important, but there are many problems to be solved. The situation of the facilities is serious and investment is needed to improve them. Let's hope that politicians do something.
