Sponge Lubrense – Shocking discoveries and serious sanitation deficiencies have been made at a popular beach resort on the Sorrento Coast. This VIP resort charges families €250 just for admission.

It's the same beach, Il Maya Experience, where Napoli footballer Matteo Politano, champion of Italy, celebrated his wedding just over a month ago.

The Carabinieri of the Sorrento Company, supported by the NAS (Anti-Adulteration and Health Unit), the NIL (Labor Inspectorate Unit), and the Pontecagnano Helicopter Unit, conducted a series of inspections of the area's beach resorts, documenting violations that led to heavy fines and seizures.

Spoiled meat and ice among the garbage: the situation at the restaurant

The most critical situation was found in restaurant of a famous beach in Massa Lubrense. Here, the military found meat breakdownand, even more disconcertingly, ice intended for cocktails stored in bags normally used for garbage.

In addition to the very serious food-related violations, significant violations of workplace safety regulations were also discovered. The facilities were not up to standard, and medical checks and worker training were neglected.

Fines of over 20 thousand euros and reports

The combined violations have increased the fines to over €20. Thirty-six kilos of non-compliant food were seized, and the owner of the company managing the plant was reported to the competent authorities.

The Carabinieri operation underscores the importance of checks, especially during a period of high tourist influx, to ensure public health and compliance with regulations in key sectors such as restaurants and beach resorts. Checks will continue in the coming days to ensure the safety of consumers and workers along the Campania coast.
