The one who suffered the injury is putting an end to the controversy. After days of accusations, tensions, and repeated statements, Jamal Musiala has broken his silence and publicly defended Gianluigi Donnarumma, the involuntary victim of the terrible injury that sidelined the German talent during the Club World Cup. In a video posted on his Instagram profile, the Germany playmaker spoke openly, thanking him for the support he received and—most importantly—defending all accusations: “It’s nobody’s fault, things like this happen in football.”

Simple words, but heavy as boulders, especially after the wave of criticism rained down on the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper. Leading the charge was Manuel Neuer, furious with Donnarumma for not—in his words—immediately addressing his teammate's condition. An accusation that sparked media debate and forced Gigio himself to intervene: “It was not my intention to hurt Musiala, I am very shocked by what happened,” the Italian had said, followed by the support of Courtois and his agent Vincenzo Raiola, who had explained how Donnarumma had sent a message to Musiala already during the interval.

Now, with Musiala confirming that he feels well after a perfectly successful operation and announcing that he wants to return “stronger than before”, the fracture – sporting and otherwise – seems to be healing. “It's great to see the world of football united”, concluded the German, who will be forced to sit out for at least five to six months: his return to the field is expected for the beginning of 2026. Meanwhile, his mature gesture has already changed the climate around a matter that risked becoming a man-eating scene.

The situation between Musiala and Donnarumma is truly complicated, but I think Musiala's words were right to clarify matters. No one should be blamed for incidents in football; it's something that can happen.
