Naples – Tense moments erupted yesterday afternoon in Piazza del Gesù, where a man attacked several Italian Army soldiers involved in the "Safe Streets" operation.
The man, a 47-year-old Polish national with a criminal record, was arrested by State Police officers on charges of resisting arrest and assaulting a public official.
According to reconstructions, the intervention was triggered following a report received by the Operations Room. Officers from the Office of General Prevention and Public Rescue, along with staff from the Police Station, Dante Alighieri, they went to the scene where they found the soldiers struggling with the man, visibly in a state of psychophysical alteration.
According to witnesses, the 47-year-old initially verbally abused the officers, before escalating to physical assault. The individual was immediately subdued and arrested by officers, who took him to the police station for formal procedures.
The incident refocuses attention on security in central areas of the city and the delicate work carried out daily by law enforcement and military personnel serving in the area.
