A new space for sweating, playing, and socializing has opened in the heart of Naples. At Rotonda Diaz, on the beautiful Caracciolo seafront, a new beach volleyball and foot volleyball court has been inaugurated, just steps from the already popular Mappatella Gym. This is another step in an urban redevelopment project that combines sport, wellness, and beauty, supported by the Marinelli Gaeta Foundation with the participation of Jacked and the contributions of numerous entrepreneurs and nonprofit organizations, including the 100×100 Naples Foundation.
The opening ceremony was attended by Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi and Councilor Edoardo Cosenza, along with representatives of institutions and associations. Manfredi emphasized the importance of investing in accessible and free sports: "With this field, we complete the sports offerings on one of the most beloved public beaches. And we're not stopping there: new projects are also planned for San Giovanni a Teduccio to ensure sea, safety, and sports for all residents."
A message reiterated by Cosenza, who recalled how the beach gym, opened just a year ago, quickly became a hub for hundreds of people every day. The idea of a city offering free spaces to work out and socialize is thus taking shape, far beyond just a slogan.
Roberta Marinelli, president of the Marinelli Gaeta Foundation and promoter of the project, is also enthusiastic: "With this camp, we're adding another opportunity to experience sports and build social bonds. Naples has extraordinary places, and we want to continue enhancing them with concrete and inclusive projects. The collaboration between the public, private, and voluntary sectors demonstrates that when we work together, results come."
I think this new field is a great idea for the citizens of Naples, especially those who love sports. But perhaps more publicity and activities are needed to better engage locals and make it a real meeting place.
