Naples – A 36-year-old Peruvian man, an illegal immigrant in Italy with a criminal record, was arrested Sunday afternoon by the State Police for resisting a public official, assault, and criminal damage.
The man, in a frenzy of aggression, first threatened random motorists by brandishing a wooden platform, then attacked the intervening officers, throwing the object at them and damaging the service car.
The Police Headquarters Operations Room had received several reports of a harassing and violent man on Corso Novara. Officers from the Office of General Prevention and Public Rescue, arriving on the scene, found him shouting and attempting to hit passing cars with a heavy platform.
As soon as he saw the uniforms, instead of calming down, the man escalated his aggression even further, throwing the wooden platform at the officers and then physically resisting, forcing the officers to scuffle to restrain him. Once in the car, he continued kicking the rear door, damaging it.
The man, already known to law enforcement, was taken to prison pending a summary trial. In addition to the crimes committed on Sunday, he is also facing charges related to his illegal immigration status in Italy.
