Naples – A 25-year-old Moroccan national, illegally residing in Italy, was arrested overnight by State Police in Naples for burglary. He was also charged with illegal entry and residence in Italy.
The incident occurred on Corso Umberto I, one of the busiest streets in the city center. Officers from the Office of General Prevention and Public Rescue, conducting a territorial patrol, noticed a man chasing a fleeing individual with an object in his hand.
After a short chase, the police stopped the suspect, ascertaining that, a few moments earlier, he had robbed a passerby , stealing his wallet and a case containing glasses.
Thanks to the officers' prompt response, the 25-year-old was stopped and arrested. The stolen items were recovered and returned to their rightful owner. Authorities also verified the suspect's illegal status in Italy and filed a complaint for violation of immigration laws.
A rapid intervention against petty crime
The operation is part of the Naples Police Headquarters' efforts to prevent and combat petty urban crime. Corso Umberto I, an area with a high density of pedestrians and commercial activities, is often the scene of thefts and pickpocketing, requiring constant monitoring by law enforcement.
It's important that the police work to combat crime, but sometimes there are problems with immigration laws that need to be resolved. Security is paramount, but individual rights cannot be overlooked either.
