Naples: Tender stolen from maxi yacht off Castel dell'Ovo: Found in Torre del Greco

NNaples – A daring theft rocked the Naples harbor overnight: the tender of a Maxi Yacht, moored in the waters off Castel dell'Ovo, was stolen before the city's eyes.

But the rapid intervention of the military from the Naples Guardia di Finanza's Naval Air Operations Unit allowed the vessel to be recovered a few hours later, putting an end to a case that highlights the growing scourge of thefts at sea.

The theft was reported this morning by the vessel's commander at the Naples Naval Station. A search began immediately, facilitated by the presence of naval units already engaged in patrol operations.

Thanks to an inshore reconnaissance, the Guardia di Finanza located the tender on a beach in Torre del Greco, cleverly hidden among reeds and vegetation. The vessel, fortunately intact, was recovered and returned to its owner.

A growing phenomenon

The theft of tend and smaller boats is an increasingly widespread problem along the Campania coast, especially during the summer season, when recreational boat traffic reaches its peak.

Thieves take advantage of the night hours and poor surveillance to strike, often hiding the stolen vehicles in isolated locations to later resell or dismantle them. To combat this phenomenon, the Guardia di Finanza has intensified maritime police checks, raising awareness among local sailors and boaters of the need to adopt security measures.

Among the recommendations is not to leave tenders unattended, especially at night, and to equip them with anti-theft systems or secure anchoring.

More checks ahead of the summer

With the arrival of August, the peak tourist season, maritime surveillance services are expected to be further strengthened. The Campania coast, long a favorite destination for yachts and pleasure boats, will be patrolled more intensively to ensure the safety of vacationers and combat illegal activities.

The goal is clear: to protect a crucial sector for regional tourism and prevent incidents like the one that occurred off Castel dell'Ovo. The timely intervention of the Guardia di Finanza demonstrates the effectiveness of maritime controls, but the message is equally clear: cooperation from boaters is essential to curb theft and preserve the beauty and safety of the Campania coast.
