Naples – MA, the 76-year-old man who was hit on July 6th while riding his pedal-assisted bicycle along Viale della Liberazione, in the eastern outskirts of the city, did not make it.
The man died on the morning of Wednesday, July 23, at the San Giovanni Bosco hospital, where he had been transferred after an initial admission to the Cardarelli hospital.
The accident occurred late in the afternoon of Sunday, July 6, around 5:00 PM. The victim was traveling toward Via Beccadelli when he collided with a Seat Arona, driven by a 64-year-old Cypriot citizen. The cyclist's condition immediately appeared critical: he was rushed to Cardarelli Hospital, where doctors reserved their prognosis.
Local Police Road Accident Unit officers arrived at the scene to conduct a thorough investigation. The driver of the car underwent routine toxicology tests, which were negative. Both the bicycle and the car were seized to allow for further investigation.
The elderly man's death refocuses attention on the tragic toll of road accidents in Campania, with pedestrians and cyclists among the most vulnerable victims. A silent massacre that continues to shock, often amid widespread disregard.

It's truly sad that someone of that age died in such a terrible accident. Roads should be safer for everyone, especially those traveling by bicycle or on foot. Let's hope this serves as a warning.
