Naples – A new solidarity and inclusion center is active in Naples. The “Sportello Sociale” has been inaugurated at the city offices of the SALP Union (ACAI Workers and Pensioners Union), a free service designed to protect the rights of the homeless and the most vulnerable segments of the population. An innovative initiative in Campania, already active through the toll-free number 081/2301089.
The desk provides administrative assistance for accessing the National Health Service even in the absence of registered residence, as required by the recent Law 176/2024. SALP volunteers offer support for registering with the ASL, obtaining a GP, accessing social benefits and completing the ISEE. A model destined to be replicated in other Italian regions.
"Living on the streets is an inhuman condition, often the result of a personal crisis and the lack of a social and economic network," explains Raffaele Iavazzi, national president of SALP. "You are not homeless only when you sleep on the streets: even those who experience housing hardship fall into a condition of extreme poverty. Our duty is to listen to them and offer concrete solutions."
Fundamental, Iavazzi underlines, is the contribution of the collateral structures of the SALP system – from the Caf to the patronages, from the agricultural federations to the help desks for domestic workers and carers – for the success of the project.
With over 1300 branches throughout Italy, SALP confirms itself as an active union not only in the protection of workers, pensioners and citizens, but also in the third sector, with particular attention to the weakest categories. The union is a signatory of numerous national collective agreements in areas such as tourism, domestic assistance, tertiary, metalworking and agriculture.
"Alongside our union activity, we also carry out solidarity projects," recalls Massimo Scherillo, SALP manager for Campania. Among these, "Equal in diversity", an initiative that promotes sports and social events aimed at disadvantaged youth and people with disabilities.
Among the most recent events, the “Derby dei Campioni” at the Diego Armando Stadium Maradona, which featured well-known faces from the worlds of sport and entertainment: the proceeds were donated to the Santobono Pausilipon Hospital and the UNICA association, committed to the culture of legality and the fight against gender violence.
A commitment, that of SALP, which combines concrete assistance and social promotion, aiming to build a solid network of rights and opportunities for those who live on the margins.
