Naples – The prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, firmly condemns the episode that occurred last July 12 in Scampia, where a group of people attempted to illegally occupy the social housing of an elderly woman, attacking the woman and her family members who came to her aid.
In an official statement, the prefect expressed his "full solidarity with the family who were victims of this brutal violence" and emphasized "the institutions' constant commitment to protecting the right to housing and combating all forms of illegality."
The prefecture highlights that the Scampia area is subjected to "special police controls" to guarantee safety and support the ongoing urban redevelopment and regeneration programme, aimed at improving liveability and services for citizens.
This episode is very serious and highlights how complicated the situation in Naples is. Institutions should do more to protect vulnerable elderly people. We hope similar situations never happen again.
