Naples – An attempted robbery against a Spanish tourist resulted in an arrest by the Local Police. It occurred yesterday afternoon, around 12:55 PM, in Piazza Principe Umberto, as part of the extraordinary territorial control operation ordered by the Naples Local Police.
A man attempted to snatch a necklace from the neck of a tourist who was in the Belvedere area. The San Lorenzo task force of the local police , who responded quickly, noticed the scene and pursued the criminal. Despite an attempt to resist, the man was apprehended not far from the scene of the attempted robbery.
The arrested man is a Tunisian citizen without a residence permit and with a significant criminal record: previous convictions for resisting a public official, theft, illegal possession of offensive objects, land invasion, and possession of narcotics with intent to sell.
Brought to the police station for routine checks, he admitted to the attempted robbery, but the victim—although traumatized—did not file a complaint. Therefore, in the absence of the aggravating circumstance of actual robbery, the man was charged only with resisting arrest. He was also served with an order to leave the "red zone" of Piazza Garibaldi, considered a threat to public order.
The incident in Piazza Principe Umberto is deeply concerning. It's strange that a Spanish tourist was targeted in such a busy area. I hope the local police do more to ensure safety.
