Naples – Vandalism has hit the public beach at Largo Sermoneta, where showers, fountains, and toilets, installed just ten days ago, were severely damaged.
A group of teenagers, presumably around 16 years old, allegedly violently bent a shower pole, causing thousands of liters of water to leak, and partially destroyed the toilet by kicking it. Green-Left Alliance MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli inspected the site to assess the damage.
"This beach, rescued from neglect and illegal boat storage, is a public asset reclaimed for the community. Without oversight and civic responsibility, however, it risks falling back into disrepair," Borrelli declared. The parliamentarian called for immediate action: "We need permanent security posts and cameras to prevent further damage.
It is unacceptable that public resources be destroyed by incivility. Those responsible, often very young, act this way because they were raised to disregard the common good. Parents must be held accountable for the damage their children cause: those who raise children who behave like vandals are jointly responsible.
Borrelli concluded by emphasizing the urgency of protecting public spaces: "Either we organize to defend them, or our heritage will be destroyed day after day."
