Gemona del Friuli – A crime of unprecedented violence has shocked the community of Gemona del Friuli, in the province of Udine. Alessandro Venier, 35, was found murdered and dismembered inside his home.
The man's body, it was reported, had been cut into pieces and hidden in a bin in the garage, where it had been covered in several layers of quicklime in an attempt to speed up its decomposition and mask the smell.
The gruesome discovery occurred this morning, around 10:30, following a report from the man's partner and her mother, who alerted the police.
But according to initial investigations, the two women are the alleged perpetrators of the murder: both were arrested on charges of murder and concealment of a corpse, after admitting their responsibilities during questioning.
The victim, according to Mayor Roberto Revelant, often worked abroad and was not well-known in the town. "As far as I can remember," the mayor stated, "nothing like this has ever happened here. This is a very serious and heartbreaking event."
Venier's partner, a 30-year-old woman of Colombian origin, and her mother-in-law, now in the police station, are believed to have acted together*, but the motive and exact dynamics of the crime remain unclear.
The investigators of the Udine Public Prosecutor's Office, who are coordinating the investigations, are not ruling out any hypothesis, although they are working on a possible context of strong family tensions*
Adding to the tragedy is the presence of a baby girl, the couple's daughter, who is now in the care of social services. "All of Gemona is rallying around her," the mayor added. "We are doing everything we can to ensure her safety and a dignified future."
The investigation, conducted by the Carabinieri of the Udine provincial command, is ongoing. The town, in shock, is wondering how such a horror could have occurred within the confines of a home, in a community that had never before witnessed such atrocities.
