NAPLES – Vesuvius National Park enters the future, and it does so with a name that recalls history and looks to the future: Mr. Plinio. This is the new AI-powered virtual assistant, available 24/7, designed to revolutionize the visitor experience.
Mr. Plinio, accessible from the Park's official website and social media, is the first AI assistant ever developed for a global protected area. It answers frequently asked questions in real time, from available trails to safety regulations, from schedules to volcanology and biodiversity information. It speaks multiple languages, integrates voice functionality, and is also accessible to those with visual or hearing impairments.
The project was created by the Vesuvius National Park Authority, on the occasion of its thirtieth anniversary, together with Seed Media Agency, a partner in local promotion initiatives. "We want the visit to be a profound, intuitive, and inclusive experience.", explained the president of the Park, Raffaele De Luca. "We believe that artificial intelligence can truly help enhance our natural heritage."
In parallel, the plan to install intelligent QR Codes along the trails is also ready to start: a scan will be enough to access geolocalized and personalized content, in a mix between real and digital. With Mr. Plinio the Vesuvio It becomes a laboratory of innovation where nature, technology, and accessibility meet to build a more conscious, modern, and sustainable form of tourism.
