The fight against drug trafficking in the Avellino area saw two major successes today. Police and Carabinieri officers, in separate operations, secured cocaine, heroin, and hashish, arresting two individuals already known to law enforcement.
In Ariano Irpino, police officers stopped a 44-year-old man during a traffic stop. But it wasn't just a routine check: hidden in the engine compartment of his car, specifically in the windshield washer fluid reservoir, were 6 grams of heroin and over 20 grams of cocaine. A search of his home later uncovered additional material, likely used to prepare the drugs for sale.
A few hours later, in Montoro, the Carabinieri arrested a 25-year-old local man. The young man was carrying 50 grams of hashish, divided into packages, five packages of cocaine ready for sale, and €360 in cash, almost certainly the proceeds of his illegal activity.
"These arrests demonstrate that the area is constantly monitored," law enforcement sources tell us. "We will not loosen our grip on those who poison our youth and our communities."
The two arrested will now begin their legal proceedings, while investigations continue to determine whether they were connected to larger drug dealing networks. Meanwhile, the streets of Irpinia are a little safer: the drugs seized today won't end up in the pockets and lungs of our young people.

It's wonderful to see the police doing their duty and arresting drug dealers. But I wonder if these arrests are enough to stop the widespread drug problem in our society. We need to do more!
