With the arrest of the boss Antonio Angelino known as “Tibiuccio”, the criminal geography in Caivano has changed. Giovanni Barra, known as “'o Scucciato”, and Roberto Maugeri, indicated as the new referents for the management of extortion, are said to have taken control of the territory.
This is evident from reading the 64-page precautionary order signed by investigating judge Ambra Cerabona, at the request of the Naples DDA, and which yesterday led to the imprisonment of the two who had managed to get away with the raid in March 2024 that led to the imprisonment of 14 members of the Angelino-Gallo clan.
According to what emerges from an interception dated July 10, 2023, Barra had gone to Assunta Reccia's house, accompanied by Gianfranco Bervicato, to verify and update the list of the racket's objectives.
The woman confirmed the accuracy of the list in her possession, promising to provide a new document with more details, including dates and periods of payments. During the meeting, Barra also asked for information on the activities in the industrial area of Caivano, defined as "at risk of arrest" by Giovanni Cipolletti.
Barra, aware of potential interceptions, would have taken precautions to avoid tracking, refusing any telephone contact and imposing not to deliver the list to third parties. Reccia, for her part, guaranteed to have checked the environment with a scanner for bugs.
“Week” of 400 euros and compensation for legal expenses
During the visit, Reccia had raised the issue of the so-called “week” – the weekly payment for the maintenance of the families of the prisoners – complaining about the lack of receipt and the legal costs incurred on behalf of Cipolletti. Barra, as the new clan leader, reassured the start of the payments: 400 euros per week (then 500), with an advance of 1.000 euros. The money was to be delivered by Bervicato every Saturday.
Despite the promises, delays and tensions were recorded in the following days. In a phone call on July 19, Cipolletti and Bervicato discussed the missed payments, with the former urging payments for Reccia. They also discussed the distribution of the extortion proceeds, with accusations of omitted payments and undeclared sums by Barra, who allegedly directly managed some collections, such as the one to the detriment of a certain “Gigino”.
A new structure and the centrality of the Maugeri-Barra duo
Conversations between the suspects outline a new criminal structure, in which Maugeri and Barra assume a central role in the management of the racket. Bervicato, although affiliated, complains of marginalization and lack of access to the proceeds.
The list of extortions, drawn up by Assunta Reccia, becomes a strategic document: it lists names, dates and amounts to be collected, and is kept with extreme caution. Delivery is expected only "by hand" to Barra, after contact in person, excluding any communication by telephone.
Meanwhile, the intercepted conversations reveal the constant attention to the economic dynamics of the clan: the flow of payments, the fees to be paid to the relatives of the prisoners, the tensions between affiliates over the division of the money and the pressure to receive what is due. A well-established system, but also fragile, where internal reorganization and broken promises fuel discontent and suspicion.
Investigations continue to clarify the roles and dismantle the network, while the “extortion list” remains at the center of a criminal mystery that reveals the dark side of the management of power in the area.

It's a strange fact that there are always new bosses taking control of the territory. The situation in Caivano is complicated, and it seems law enforcement must work harder to stop this spiral of violence and crime.
