A historic event for Salerno: after four centuries, the Garden of Minerva, the jewel of the ancient Salerno Medical School, has regained its complete integrity and is preparing to welcome the public with a renewed face.

Located in the heart of the city, this botanical garden—the oldest in Europe connected to a medical school—is back in splendor thanks to an ambitious restoration and expansion project, which will be presented tomorrow, July 18, with free admission from 18:21 PM to XNUMX:XNUMX PM.

A unique opportunity to discover a site that combines history, nature, and innovation, with an unprecedented view of the city that no one has been able to admire for the last 400 years.

A restoration to rediscover a unique heritage

The City of Salerno, after having acquired the last 740 square meter terrace upstream from the site, has completed a restoration project that restores the Minerva Garden to its original size.

The work included restoring the plasterwork, resurfacing the cocciopesto floors, strengthening the retaining wall on the fifth level, and installing a modern irrigation system and artistic nighttime lighting, which will allow for evocative evening viewing.

The new terraces, enriched with medicinal plants from around the world, offer not only an immersion in Salerno's medical tradition but also a breathtaking view of Salerno, never seen before.

Accessibility and new features

The project has made the garden more inclusive and functional. An elevator now provides access for people with disabilities between the ground floor and the first level, while at Palazzo Capasso, the previously unused first floor has been renovated to host educational activities for schools and universities.

The refreshment area has also been improved, offering herbal teas and products inspired by the tradition of the Salerno Medical School, strengthening the connection with the site's cultural heritage. A single ticket for three treasures.

Among the new features is the introduction of a single ticket that will allow visitors to visit the Minerva Garden, the Virtual Museum of the Salerno Medical School, and the Papi Museum of Surgical Instruments, both of which will be open free of charge tomorrow during the same time slots.

An initiative that aims to enhance Salerno's medical and cultural heritage, making the experience accessible to a wider audience. A symbol of cultural rebirth.
The reopening of the Minerva Garden is not only a milestone for Salerno, but also a sign of how the restoration of its historical heritage can become a driving force for tourism and education.

This corner of nature and history, which for centuries represented the pinnacle of medieval medicine, now returns as a landmark for the city, ready to welcome visitors, scholars, and residents eager to rediscover a unique piece of their past. Tomorrow, Salerno will celebrate a 400-year-long awaited return, with the promise of a future marked by beauty and culture.
