An ambitious goal for Campania: the cleanup of the Sarno River is nearing completion, while the dream of a swimmable Gulf of Naples is taking shape.
This was stated by the President of the Region, Vincenzo De Luca, during an inspection in Scafati, at the construction site on Via del Polverificio, where the Via Diaz discharge has been eliminated, a crucial step in the "Energy for the Sarno" program.
"We're seeing encouraging results," De Luca stated, "and we're working simultaneously on the Agro and Vesuvian slopes, investing tens of millions of euros in sewerage and drainage systems, as in Torre del Greco."
A titanic work for the environment
The governor emphasized the multi-pronged commitment to clean up one of Italy's most polluted waterways and restore the Gulf of Naples to its former tourist and environmental vocation. The work, which includes the construction of sewerage infrastructure, represents a strategic investment to improve the quality of life of local communities.
“The Gulf's swimmability is another miracle we want to complete,” said De Luca, highlighting the progress already visible and the goal of transforming the coast into a safe and clean attraction.
Challenges overcome, but not without obstacles
Among the challenges faced, the president cited the billing issue, calling the organization put in place to contain costs and ensure fairness a "miracle." There was no shortage of criticism of those who, according to De Luca, "didn't pay regardless," thus slowing down the process.
However, regional commitment has helped overcome these resistances, structuring a more efficient and sustainable system.
"Now we must take the final steps," De Luca concluded, assuring that the Region will closely monitor the project's progress and continue to support local communities. The goal is clear: to complete the Sarno River reclamation and make the Gulf of Naples a symbol of environmental rebirth.
This commitment, if completed, could represent a historic turning point for Campania, with benefits not only for the ecosystem but also for tourism and the regional economy.
