Naples – The two protesters arrested yesterday in Naples during clashes with law enforcement outside the Maschio Angioino castle, near the ferry terminal for the Gulf islands, have been released from prison. The preliminary investigations judge (GIP) confirmed their arrest but also ordered their immediate release, unless they are held for other reasons. The next hearing is scheduled for October 10.
The decision came at the end of the fast-track trial held today in Courtroom 418 of the Naples Courthouse. During the hearing, several key witnesses were heard, including the DIGOS officer who suffered a broken finger and was given a 30-day prognosis.
The deputy prosecutor of Naples , Gagliari, charged the two arrested with the crimes of resisting a public official, assault and damage.
A group of around 200-250 people awaited the outcome of the hearing outside the courthouse entrance in Piazza Cenni. Upon hearing the news of the release, they began chanting in support of the protesters.
Ahead of the October hearing, the trial could proceed with an alternative or standard procedure, depending on the judge's decisions and the parties' requests. The clashes occurred amid protests related to "click day," a system used for some administrative procedures.
