Terracina– Tragedy yesterday evening in the heart of Terracina, in the province of Latina. Around 22.30:XNUMX p.m., the roof of the starred restaurant “Essenza”, led by chef Simone Nardoni, suddenly collapsed, overwhelming customers and employees inside the room. The toll is dramatic: one victim and six injured, three of whom are in serious condition.
The person who lost her life was Mara Severin, 31, a sommelier at the restaurant, who was in charge of the dining room service together with a colleague, as also indicated on the restaurant's official website. The young woman died shortly after being rescued. The injured - all rushed to the "Fiorini" hospital in Terracina - are both customers and staff members.
According to initial reconstructions, two separate collapses of the structure would have occurred before the ceiling fell on the internal room, which at the time was crowded. Other customers were instead seated outside the premises, which probably avoided an even more serious toll.
Investigators are also considering the possibility of severe weather and strong wind gusts in the area, although it didn't rain yesterday in Terracina. A yellow weather alert had been issued for the entire province of Latina.
The Latina Public Prosecutor's Office has ordered the seizure of the restaurant and started an investigation to ascertain the causes of the collapse. The investigation is coordinated by the prosecutor Giuseppe Miliano. The firefighters, the police and the 118 emergency services intervened on site.
This news is truly shocking. We hope that the authorities will do everything possible to understand the causes and prevent similar incidents in the future. Customer safety must be a top priority.
I can't believe something like this happened. Restaurants should be safe places, especially in a tourist area like Terracina. It's important to clarify what happened.
It's a sad thing to happen in a place where people go to eat well and spend time with friends. I hope the injured recover quickly. I'm deeply sorry for the lives lost and for the family.
