Vesuvius takes back another piece of its land, stolen for years from illegality and unauthorized construction. In Torre del Greco, in the area of via La Maria Ruospo, two masonry structures measuring 12 and 16 square meters were demolished in execution of an order issued by the Court of Torre Annunziata. The structures, built in violation of all building and environmental regulations, were located in the heart of the Vesuvius National Park, in an area subject to landscape, seismic, hydrogeological and volcanic restrictions.
The ruling dates back to 2005, but only today — thanks to the joint action of the Prosecutor's Office and the growing institutional pressure to combat illegal building — has it been possible to follow up on the judicial order. The operation also took on a symbolic value: for the first time, in this specific case, the demolition took place in self-demolition mode, without financially burdening either the budget of the National Park, or that of the Municipality or the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti.
The owner of the building personally proceeded with the demolition, confirming the effectiveness of the awareness campaign carried out by the Prosecutor's Office. A clear message: illegal construction is no longer tolerated and those who have built outside the rules will have to face justice.
The Prosecutor's Office emphasizes that demolition is an essential tool not only for environmental restoration, but also to discourage future abuses. In this case, the works were in one of the most fragile and protected areas of the Vesuvian territory, falling within the red zone of high volcanic risk, as well as in the piedmont strip and agricultural landscape of national importance.
It's important to respect the law and building regulations. Building in protected areas like the Vesuvius National Park is unacceptable. We hope this is a step forward in greater environmental awareness.
