American tourist dives into Furore Fjord, risking paralysis.

Share

SSalerno– A reckless dive, without calculating the risks, could cost her dearly. A 45-year-old American tourist, vacationing on the Amalfi Coast with her family, is hospitalized in serious condition at Ruggi Hospital in Salerno after jumping from the Furore Fjord, one of the highest and most dangerous points in the area.

Initial diagnoses suggest spinal injuries: doctors have not ruled out the risk of paralysis. The woman, not a professional diver like those who compete in organized competitions every year, chose to jump from a height of about 30 meters, ignoring the dangers of an act that requires technique, preparation, and knowledge of the point of impact.

After the violent contact with the water, she fainted and was immediately recovered by rescuers.

Immediate relief, but the situation is dramatic

Rushed first to the emergency room in Castiglione di Ravello and then by helicopter to the Ruggi hospital in Salerno, the tourist is stable, but her prognosis remains guarded. Paramedics fear permanent damage: the impact may have damaged her spine, with the outcome still unclear.

The episode brings to light the reckless behavior of some tourists, who challenge nature without awareness. FURORE It's an iconic location, but dives—if not performed by professionals—can turn into death traps. A few seconds can change a life.
