Te,pio Pausania – The trial for alleged gang rape is approaching its crucial phase, involving Ciro Grillo, son of the founder of the 5 Star Movement Beppe Grillo, and his three Genoese friends, Edoardo Capitta, Vittorio Lauria and Francesco Corsiglia.
The Tempio Pausania Prosecutor's Office requested a 9-year prison sentence for all four defendants, recognizing the mitigating circumstances of their young age.
Almost eight hours of prosecution, spread over two days, led the prosecutor Gregorio Capasso to a clear conclusion: the four were responsible for the sexual violence against two girls, at the time nineteen years old, an Italian-Norwegian student and a girl of the same age. The alleged events allegedly took place during the night between 16 and 17 July 2019, inside the Grillo family villa in Porto Cervo.
“It was not an easy trial,” said prosecutor Capasso, emphasizing the commitment shown without being overwhelmed by emotions. “All these boys and girls were involved in a story bigger than themselves for which they suffered and are suffering.”
After the accusation, the floor was given to the civil lawyers. Giulia Bongiorno and Dario Romano, lawyers of the Italian-Norwegian student, the main accuser, asked for 100 thousand euros in provisional damages, in addition to compensation for all pecuniary and non-pecuniary damages to be quantified. Vinicio Nardo and Fiammetta Di Stefano, lawyers of the second girl, asked for 50 thousand euros in compensation and 20 thousand euros in provisional damages. Overall, the requests for compensation amount to 150 thousand euros.
The intervention of the lawyer Bongiorno was particularly incisive, pointing the finger at a “conception of the woman whose consent is worth zero” that emerged in the trial. “She is repeatedly defined in the documents as tr… not because she is at the beginning of the evening, but because she becomes so after the vodka,” Bongiorno stated in the courtroom.
The lawyer then highlighted the pressure her client was under: “This trial will go down in judicial history for the 1.675 questions my client was asked during her examination. I don’t know how anyone could tolerate 1.675 questions. The girl held up and always answered coherently.”
The lawyer then showed the judges a photo taken by the defendants, which portrays them naked next to the face of the student's friend, asleep on the couch. "For the boys it doesn't matter that she didn't want to have any kind of relationship. Her will is not taken into consideration, it is worth zero," Bongiorno reiterated.
The considerations were taken up by the lawyer Nardo, who represents the second alleged victim. "An objective concept emerges in the way of doing, taking photos and then commenting on them in chats, and of operating the boys, a mental exercise of power over the person who was sleeping at that moment. And

We cannot speak of simple private violence just because there was no physical contact between the genitals and the face of the person who was sleeping. We have photos, videos, a persistence of the damage inflicted on the girl. My client has certainly suffered a crime and has a right to compensation,” clarified Nardo.
The trial will resume on July 10 with defense speeches. Francesco Corsiglia's lawyer, Gennaro Velle, was optimistic despite the requests for conviction.
"We expected a request for a very high sentence. In our discussion we will highlight all the elements that undermine the credibility of the injured party and the evidence that there is of the innocence of my client," Velle said. "It certainly isn't over yet, we will then await the verdict of the judges, but we have all the arrows in our bow to arrive, hopefully, at a positive conclusion to the trial."
