A weekend of thunderstorms, then the heat returns: the African anticyclone arrives on Monday.

Sunny weather will prevail until Saturday, except for local Alpine thunderstorms. Unstable vortices with rain are expected on Sunday in the north-west and Tyrrhenian coast, but the heat will return soon after.

ROME – A few more hours of sunshine and stability, then on Sunday the atmosphere becomes more agitated and summer takes a break. Showers, sudden thunderstorms, lightning, and even hail are on the way to much of the Italian peninsula, but the relief will be short-lived: starting Monday, high pressure will return, bringing a gradual rise in temperatures and a new African flare-up.

Lorenzo Tedici, meteorologist at iLMeteo.it , confirms this, painting a clear picture of the development: "The weather will be mostly sunny until Saturday, with some isolated thunderstorms in the Triveneto mountains. On Saturday afternoon, the phenomena will extend towards the western Alps and, from the evening, also along the Adriatic coast." But the real change of direction will come on Sunday, when two different low pressure systems—one centered between Germany and Poland, the other arriving from Spain —will create an unstable day across Italy.

"Showers are expected in the early hours of Sunday in the northwest and Sardinia ," Tedici specifies, " then the rain will move towards Tuscany, Lazio, and Campania, with scattered showers also in the rest of the north." Despite the rain, there will also be long sunny spells and temperatures that, while slightly decreasing, will remain summer-like. But the instability will be fleeting: starting Monday, the African anticyclone will regain control of the Mediterranean, bringing stable weather, clear skies, and sharply rising temperatures across Italy. The summer heat is ready to reignite.

The article talks about unstable weather coming, but I don't know if it's entirely true. I've noticed that the forecasts are often inaccurate and always change quickly. I wonder if the sun will really return.
