Another bloody morning on the roads of Puglia. Three cyclists from the Andria Avis cycling group lost their lives today, around 8.30:231 a.m., after being hit by a Lancia Delta on provincial road XNUMX, in the Terlizzi area.
A tragedy unfolded in a matter of moments: the car, headed toward Bari, apparently lost traction or control for reasons still unclear, plowing into a group of five cyclists riding on the shoulder of the road. Two narrowly avoided the collision, but the other three were ultimately killed instantly, with no help from emergency responders.
The driver, who stopped a few dozen meters ahead, is now the focus of an investigation by the Carabinieri of the Terlizzi station and the Molfetta company, supported by the local police. Meanwhile, the road has been closed for investigation, leaving an even greater void: that of three lives shattered while doing what they loved.
A bulletin that repeats itself
The Terlizzi tragedy is not an isolated one, but the latest in a long series of accidents which, especially on weekends, transform the roads into death traps for people. cyclists. Increasingly, groups of enthusiasts are being hit by out-of-control cars, distracted drivers, or inadequate infrastructure.
And while calls for protected bike lanes and greater safety multiply, the toll continues to rise.
What else is needed for action? Harsher fines? Tighter enforcement? Or perhaps, simply, a little more vigilance from everyone, because no one should die from a Sunday bike ride.

This article is truly tragic, but I can't help but notice that there are too many cars around and too few bike lanes. It's important that something be done for cyclists' safety, otherwise we'll continue to see accidents like this.
