FFlorence – The clearing operation began at dawn on the building that housed the “Mamma Napoli” restaurant in Piazza del Mercato, in the heart of Florence's historic center.
The building, confiscated from organized crime, was under the management of the National Agency for the Administration and Disposition of Seized Assets, which had already issued two eviction orders that have remained unenforced to date.
The intervention was conducted by the Florence Police Headquarters, with the support of the police forces, the Municipal Police, the Carabinieri police and the Guardia di Finanza, as part of a coordinated joint effort, finalized in recent days at a meeting at the Prefecture.
"The eviction," the Prefecture explains, "was ordered following a joint assessment by the various police forces and the relevant institutions, and the operational procedures were defined at the technical meeting convened at the Police Headquarters, in collaboration with all parties involved."
A confiscated asset to be returned to legality
The property, previously seized from criminal activities, was part of the assets managed by the State as part of its efforts to combat organized crime, with the aim of returning these assets to the community. Today's eviction is part of this recovery and redevelopment process: in the coming months, the property may be used for social, institutional, or legal business purposes.
According to leaks, the eviction proceeded without any particular problems or resistance. Law enforcement officers patrolled the area from the early hours of the morning to ensure enforcement of the order and safety during the operation.
The symbolic value of the operation
The project has a profound symbolic value: it is not just the restoration of a property, but a concrete sign of the state's presence in the area and its desire to sever the ties between the legal economy and criminal infiltration, even in seemingly unsuspected contexts such as the restaurant industry in the city center.
The inspections of the property will continue in the next few hours, while the evaluation phase for the building's future use begins, as part of the social reuse policies for confiscated assets.

Well done, keep it up throughout. Florence
The clearing operation was important, but I believe many issues remain unclear. It's crucial to ensure these assets are used for the good of the community, not just for clearing purposes.
