Forio d'Ischia – He attempted to flee into the sea aboard a vessel already under administrative seizure, ignoring the police's order to stop and ramming one of the police jet skis.
It happened late yesterday evening in the bay of San Francesco, in Forio, where a 37-year-old Neapolitan man was arrested by the State Police on charges of resisting arrest and assaulting a public official.
The man was also charged with damage to state property, breach of seals, and failure to comply with navigation safety regulations.
The escape attempt took place under the eyes of the officers of the Sea Section of the General Prevention and Public Rescue Office and of the personnel of the port authorities, engaged in a coastal surveillance service in the stretch of water in front of Forio.
At the sight of theboat, already seized, was heading out to sea, and the intervention was triggered: jet skis and patrol boats launched pursuit. But the 37-year-old, ignoring the warnings, continued at high speed until he violently struck one of the jet skis, causing an officer to fall into the sea.
The 37-year-old man, while fleeing, hit a police scooter, injuring an officer.
The fugitive was immediately apprehended and the vessel seized again. The injured officer was transported to Rizzoli Hospital for treatment.
The incident, described by investigators as extremely serious, highlights the risks associated with safety checks at sea, especially during the height of the summer season, and confirms the importance of law enforcement presence along the busiest stretches of coast.
The 37-year-old is now at the disposal of the judicial authorities.

The reported episode is truly strange, but I wonder how anyone could even think of escaping by sea on a seized boat. There's a lot that doesn't add up in this story.
