The evening quiet of Capitello, a hamlet of Ispani, turned to alarm when, last night, a fire tore through the convent of the Elizabethan nuns. The flames, which started in two separate locations, engulfed three rooms on the third floor, including the small apartment where three nuns lived.
According to initial reconstructions, the fire may have been caused by a short circuit originating from an electrical outlet, but investigations are still ongoing. Inside the facility, in addition to the nuns, there were six elderly residents, who were quickly rescued thanks to the intervention of the Policastro Bussentino Fire Department, with the support of the Sapri Highway Police and the Vibonati Carabinieri.
The evacuation operations concluded without any injuries. Only one elderly woman, as a precaution, was taken to the hospital for checkups, while the other residents were treated on site by 118. The nuns were unharmed, and fortunately, the building suffered no structural damage. It was a night of fear, but also of efficient rescue efforts, which prevented the incident from turning into tragedy.

It was a very strange and concerning event for the Ispani community. It's good that there were no serious injuries, but I wonder how a fire in a convent could have started. Let's hope the investigation sheds light on everything.
