Naples – A new blow to organized crime in the Campania capital. This morning, the State Police executed a precautionary order issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Naples, at the request of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, against six individuals accused of drug dealing and receiving stolen goods.
The operation, conducted by the Flying Squad with the support of the Vicaria-Mercato and Ponticelli Police Stations, dismantled a criminal network linked to the powerful Mazzarella clan, active in Naples and its province.
One of the suspects was remanded in prison, another was placed under house arrest, a third was banned from Naples, and the remaining three were required to report to the judicial police.
Today's operation is part of a broader investigation, which on July 10 led to the arrest of 25 people accused of serious crimes, including mafia association, drug trafficking, illegal possession of weapons, and possession of illegal weapons.
The investigations have revealed the structure of the Mazzarella clan , a true criminal "confederation" with three territorial branches: the Connolo group, led by the Barattolo and Galiero families; the Forcella gang, headed by the Buonerba family, known as the "Capelloni"; and the Poggioreale group, dominated by the Nunziata family, nicknamed the "Castagnari".
Guns and drugs in a building in Porta Nolana
The six arrested today are believed to be involved in drug dealing, a key component of the clan's criminal network. During the raid, officers made a significant discovery in a building in Porta Nolana: hidden in a bag in an attic, they seized a stolen Glock pistol, various caliber ammunition, and 14 blocks of hashish, totaling approximately 1,5 kg.
This discovery confirms the group's dangerousness and its ability to manage illicit trafficking. The gun has been sent to the forensic department to determine whether it was used in recent crimes.
It's important that law enforcement continue to fight organized crime, but I wonder if there are long-term plans to prevent these crimes. Operations are necessary, but we also need to educate young people.
