Torre del Greco – Giovannone Montella, a former Camorra informer from Ercolano, is believed to have survived an ambush shortly before dawn yesterday while driving near his home in Torre del Greco.
Investigators, however, believe that the hitmen who riddled his car with bullets only wanted to give him a warning, and the investigation points to revenge by someone touched by his declarations of justice.
Just a few months ago, the Carabinieri carried out a raid, arresting 12 people linked to the group led by Vincenzo Papillo and Raffaele Bifolco of Ercolano. The group also ran a cocaine and crack refinery in Pugliano. The statements of Giovannone Montella were crucial.
His father Ciro Montella was killed in 20023 together with the boss Mario Ascione
Giovanni Montella, known as Giovannone, a skilled drug trafficker from the Vesuvian area, is the son of Ciro Montella, killed on March 11, 2003 in Corso Resina in Ercolano while he was in the company of the boss Mario Ascione, the real target of the hitmen.
Giovannone Montella , who is also the nephew of a boss of the Fabbrocino clan and closely linked to the Neapolitan drug traffickers of Secondigliano, had decided to collaborate with justice in 2009.
His statements sparked the Strike raid that led to the arrest of 24 traffickers from the Vesuvian area who ran 11 "piazze" (squares) between Ercolano, Portici, and Torre del Greco, most of which were controlled by women. Montella was under house arrest but maintained relations with the Neapolitan clans and supplied the Vesuvian squares with drugs.
In August 2008, his brother miraculously escaped death: some hitmen arrived by sea in Ercolano on scooters and fired 14 gunshots at the house.
His brother, however, escaped an assassination attempt in 2028.
Giovannone had been sentenced to nine years in prison in a fast-track trial. Now, having completed his period as a collaborator with justice, he was free.
After shooting at his car, the gunmen, who had arrived by car, also opened fire on the building where some of his family members live, in the port area of Torre del Greco, a short distance from the site of the first shooting, but on a different street.
Investigators are now analyzing footage from several public and private security cameras in the area, while also reviewing statements made by Giovannone Montella's associate to find a clue to identify those responsible for the attack.

This article is very interesting, but several things don't add up. Montella has a complicated past, and his statements have been decisive, but the situation remains very dangerous and confusing for everyone. Investigators should be more careful.
