After the blow inflicted in mid-July, the State returns to deal a heavy blow to the Mazzarella clan, among the most deeply rooted Camorra organizations active in the Neapolitan area.
The individuals targeted by the measures—all considered seriously suspected of drug dealing and receiving stolen goods—are involved in a broader investigation that, as of July 10, had already led to the arrest of 25 people linked to the Mazzarella mafia network.
Arrests and obligations: the measures carried out
The precautionary measures carried out are of various types:
An arrest in prison for Maria D'Ario, 53 years old;
House arrest for Pawel Andrezj Malinowski, 29 years old of Polish origins, and Gennaro Annunziata;
Another suspect banned from residing in Naples;
Obligation to report to the judicial police for Francesco Salamandria (41 years), Gennaro Gatto (22 years) ed Emanuele D'Ambrosio (33 years).
All are accused of having played an active role in the complex drug dealing network, operated in several neighborhoods of the city under the direct or indirect control of the Mazzarellas.
During searches related to the execution of the measures, the officers found in the attic of a building in Porta Nolana – another historic stronghold of the clan – a stolen Glock pistol, ammunition and 14 blocks of hashish, for a total of approximately 1,5 kilograms of drugs.
Among the six recipients is the young man of Polish origins Pawel Andrezj Malinowski, an old acquaintance of the police: he was arrested in 2021 in Fuorigrotta after being found in possession of over two kilograms of narcotics.
After preliminary hearings before the investigating judge, thanks to the defense of lawyer Rosario Arienzo, Annunziata was granted a residence ban from Naples. The investigating judge cleared him of association with the Mazzarellas, and he was charged with only one incident deemed marginal to the investigation: a single drug dealing incident.
