Caserta – Timely intervention by the Highway Police averted a potential tragedy on the A1, the Autostrada del Sole.

During the night, a car driving southbound in the wrong direction was intercepted and safely stopped after several motorists raised the alarm.

The reports arrived at the “San Nicola Ovest” service area, where the vehicle was spotted travelling in the opposite direction.

The police immediately activated the variable message signs on the motorway to alert the users, while the Highway Police crews put in place a "safety car" device to slow down the traffic and allow the interception of the vehicle.

The car was stopped between the Caserta Nord and Santa Maria Capua Vetere junctions. The driver was a 30-year-old man from the province of Naples, who was unable to provide any explanation for his extremely dangerous behavior.

The driver was given heavy penalties: a fine of approximately 4.000 euros, the suspension of his license, and the seizure of his vehicle for three months.

Riots on the pitch, threats, and assaults during a Promozione match in the Caserta area. Months after the incident, Caserta Police Chief Andrea Grassi issued two bans (daspo) for a total of three years against two managers of ASD Casapesenna Calcio, deemed responsible for serious conduct that compromised public order.

The incidents date back to last fall, during the match between ASD Casapesenna and Città di Brusciano, played at the Graziano Papa Stadium in Succivo. During the first half, one of the officials was sent off from the bench for repeated protests and insults directed at the refereeing team. Despite being sent off, the man allegedly entered the pitch, threatening and insulting a photographer from the visiting team, even slapping and punching him.

What happened on the highway is a very serious matter. The police were right to intervene and stop the car traveling the wrong way, but I wonder why the driver had no explanation. It's important for everyone to respect the rules of the road.
