A gesture of great courage avoided a tragedy yesterday on the Domitian coast, in Castel Volturno. Two swimmers, driven offshore by strong winds and rough seas, were rescued by a police officer, who didn't hesitate to jump into the water to save them.
A patrol car from the Castel Volturno Police Station, passing along Via del Mare, was alerted by several residents trying to reach two young men in distress. One of the officers, without hesitation, stripped and jumped into the sea. With great difficulty, he reached the two swimmers, grabbed them, and dragged them to shore.
The rescuers' intervention and the final assessment
The 118 paramedics, alerted in the meantime, provided first aid to the two young men. One of them, with symptoms of the onset of drowning, was accompanied to the emergency room of the Pineta Grande clinic.
The episode, which once again demonstrates the importance of prompt rescue, underscores the great sense of duty of law enforcement, who do not hesitate to risk their own lives to save others.
