Castellabate – Another name has been added to the long list of road fatalities in Campania. Stefano Federico, 39, from Castellabate, lost his life this afternoon in a tragic accident on the Via del Mare, between the villages of San Marco and Ogliastro Marina.

It was around 14:XNUMX PM when his Beverly scooter collided head-on with a Volkswagen Passat in the Cenito area. Emergency services from the Agropoli Red Cross and a medical car immediately arrived on the scene, but there was nothing that could be done for the young man.

The driver of the car, a non-resident who immediately alerted emergency services, miraculously escaped injury. While the Carabinieri of the local station, coordinated by the Agropoli police unit, are conducting investigations to reconstruct the accident, the municipal police are managing traffic in the impact area.

The summer of death on the roads of Campania

Today's accident is just the latest in a shocking series of fatal accidents that have marked this bloody summer on Campania's roads. In the last month alone, there have been over 20 fatalities across the region, numbers that hark back to the worst statistics of recent years.

The Via del Mare, the scene of today's tragedy, has been the subject of controversy for years due to its dangerous nature. Despite repeated appeals from residents and local administrators, the road continues to claim victims, with dangerous curves and sections lacking adequate protection.

In Castellabate, a tourist town now devastated by the tragedy, there's an air of dismay. "He was a local boy, known to everyone," says a local shopkeeper, while many on social media are expressing outrage and calling for urgent road safety measures.

As the Prosecutor's Office launches its investigation and the community mourns another life lost, the bitter question remains: when will this silent massacre on our streets end? For Stefano, like too many others before him, any answer now comes too late.

It's a real shame that these things happen. The road has been dangerous for years, but no one does anything. People continue to die, and the institutions take no action. Let's hope something changes before it's too late.
