Castellammare di Stabia, August 18, 2025 – A high-voltage chase in the waters of Castellammare di Stabia has led to the charges against eight people, participants in an incident that highlights the importance of joint sea checks, especially in the middle of summer.

Officers from the Police Station, along with the Port Authority and local police, intercepted a dinghy that, ignoring the Coast Guard's order to stop, attempted a daring escape toward the "Acqua della Madonna" port area. The rapid and coordinated joint intervention allowed the vessel to be stopped thanks to the combined action of patrol boats and land patrols.

But the situation has degenerated: the occupants of the rubber dinghy, reached by the police and supported by other individuals who arrived on the scene, reacted with insults, threats and hostile attitudes.

Only the arrival of additional police units restored calm, preventing an escalation. Taken to the police station, the eight perpetrators were charged with threatening, insulting, and resisting a public official, as well as refusing to submit to a breathalyzer test.

The checks also allowed us to verify the regularity of documents and nautical licenses, the efficiency of the onboard safety equipment and the psychophysical condition of the drivers via breathalyzer.

The operation resulted in administrative fines totaling approximately €5.000. During the midsummer months, when the Campania coast is teeming with boats and tourists, the security measures deployed—with land crews and two naval vessels—prove to be an indispensable bulwark for ensuring law and order.

This episode, which could have led to more serious consequences, demonstrates how crucial maritime controls are to preventing accidents and dangerous behavior, protecting citizens and vacationers.
