Montecorvino Rovella mourns his victim. An entire community gathers around the memory of Tina Sgarbini, the 47-year-old woman found dead in her home, and a dramatic banner hung near the town hall read a loud and clear message: "Love doesn't kill. Rest in peace, Tina..."
The investigation and the arrest of the ex-partner
The tragedy unfolded on Saturday morning, when Assunta "Tina" Sgarbini's body was found lifeless on the floor of her home. Within hours, the Carabinieri investigation, coordinated by the Salerno Prosecutor's Office, focused on the woman's ex-partner, 36-year-old Christian Persico.
The man had disappeared but, after a day of searching, he was tracked down and placed under arrest on suspicion of crime, before being transferred to the Salerno-Fuorni prison.
The autopsy for the truth
To fully determine the cause of death, the Prosecutor's Office has ordered an autopsy on the woman, which will be performed tomorrow at Eboli Hospital by Dr. Marina D'Aniello. The autopsy will determine whether death was caused by strangulation or suffocation, the theories currently considered most likely by investigators.
The autopsy and ongoing interrogations will attempt to put a name and face to the violence that tore Tina from her family and three children. The slogan on the banner, "Love Does Not Kill," sums up the pain and horror of a country unable to come to terms with yet another brutal femicide.

It's sad to see a woman like Tina die in such a brutal way. The community must stand together to remember her. These acts of violence should never have occurred. We hope justice takes its course.
